State Legislature in Session

The Washington State Legislative began a 60-day session at noon on January 9, 2012 that ends in March.

One of the major goals will be continuing to work on balancing the state's operating budget. Another important topic on the agenda is equality of marriage law. To join the fight or for more information about the latter, visit Washington United for Marriage.

House Speaker Frank Chopp opened the session with a speech outlining the House Democrats' goals of job creation, education funding, saving the social safety net, ensuring equality, and providing opportunity. You can read the full transcript here.
