Washington Democrats Statement on GOP Senate Candidates
Pelz: GOP fields ‘a Wall Street insider and a Tea Party extremist'
SEATTLE – On Monday, Washington State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz issued the following statement on the field of Republican candidates for U.S. Senate in 2012.
“Republican voters now have both a Wall Street insider and a Tea Party extremist running for U.S. Senate,” Pelz said. “Phillip Yin has spent a decade working for large Wall Street investment firms. Mike Baumgartner has spent the majority of his short political career pandering to far-right Tea Party leaders.
“Baumgartner’s platform of ending the Department of Education, curtailing women’s reproductive choices, and privatizing Social Security put him far outside of the mainstream. The Tea Party may be happy with his candidacy, but moderate Washington voters won’t be.
“Voters know Maria Cantwell’s record of fighting for Washington’s middle-class families by working across the aisle to create jobs and turn our economy around. Mike Baumgartner and Phillip Yin owe Washington voters a number of answers about their records.”
