As Governor, Jay Inslee will help build a working Washington.

Over the last 20 years, while living and representing people on both sides of the Cascades, Jay has worked successfully to open up trade opportunities for Washington apples, helped protect Boeing workers against unfair foreign competition for the recent Air Force tanker contract, and has become a national leader on creating new jobs in the clean energy economy. Jay has also been a consistent supporter of women's rights, marriage equality, and working families.

As Governor, Jay's priority will be creating jobs in Washington by expanding economic opportunities in manufacturing, clean energy, high tech, biotech, agriculture and aerospace.

Jay is also a principled leader who isn't afraid to buck conventional wisdom on tough issues. For example, he argued against bailing out those responsible for the economic crisis and ultimately voted against the Wall Street bailout bill in October of 2008. Jay also opposed the Iraq war from the very beginning.

Jay is a fifth-generation Washingtonian who has lived and worked on both sides of the Cascades.

Jay grew up in the Puget Sound area where his father worked as a biology teacher at Garfield High School and his mother, a homemaker and artist, worked at Sears and Roebuck. Having worked his way through college by driving bulldozers, cement trucks, and painting buildings, Jay has a profound respect for workers and all work.

Jay and his wife, Trudi, raised their three boys in the sage brush and orchards of the Yakima Valley, where Jay practiced law and served as a small town prosecutor. Jay and Trudi are now the proud grandparents of two-year-old Brody.
