"Our Democratic family lost a great member with the passing of Billy Frank Jr. Billy made his mark by fighting for tribal rights. But even after victories like the Boldt decision, Billy's work was not done. He built on that legacy by working with Democratic legends like Warren G. Magnuson and Norm Dicks to protect salmon and our lands. Billy was more than a partner in these efforts. He counseled, inspired, and energized our Democratic leaders until his final days...

The Affordable Care Act is working for millions of people in Washington. Currently, 2,970,000 people on Washington –including 372,000 children - with pre-existing conditions no longer have to worry about being denied health coverage or charged higher premiums; and 1,620,000 people have already benefitted from receiving at least one preventive care service without cost.

State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz today condemned the auction by the State Republican Party of a Plinker Plus Flat Top AR-15 assault type rifle, capable of shooting 30 rounds. A Bushmaster XM-15, a type of AR-15, was used by Adam Lanza in the Newtown killings. An AR-15 was used by James Holmes in the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, where 12 people were killed.

On February 2nd, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee re-elected Dwight Pelz as State Democratic Party Chair by unanimous vote. Chair Pelz ran unopposed.
The vote reflects the success of the Washington State Democratic Party in 2012 – electing President Obama, Governor Jay Inslee, Senator Maria Cantwell, and Democrats to six of 10 House seats and eight of nine statewide offices.
The other officers were also re-elected by unanimous vote – Vice Chair Valerie Brady Rongey, Secretary Rob Dolin, and Treasurer Habib Habib.
