Thanks to you, Washington has been at the forefront of the effort to raise the minimum wage.

That continues today, because we know no one who works full-time should have to raise a family in poverty.

Patty Murray has introduced the Raise the Wage Act, which would raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $12 by 2020, helping workers and families across America who now struggle to survive on sub-poverty wages.

This battle won’t be easy. Powerful special interests will be fighting this at every turn. We need to build momentum for this act and other efforts to level the economic playing field — We need to hear from you today.

Right now, the odds are stacked against those earning minimum wage. The price of living continues to rise, but the minimum wage hasn’t kept up, which means workers are actually getting a pay cut every year.

Our voters and Democratic leaders understand that this just isn’t right. They know our economy works best if it’s giving everybody a shot at success, not just helping the wealthy get richer and richer.

We have a long way to go. On the state and federal level, Republicans are fighting to keep the status quo. They’ve blocked efforts to raise the minimum wage from even getting a vote. Here in Washington, Republicans in the State Senate are even trying to lower the minimum wage.

As hard as they try, we know that Americans support raising the minimum wage. Can we count on you to speak out and make sure the other side knows it?
