RELEASE: Podlodowski on Trumpcare CBO score

The Congressional Budget Office today released its score for the American Health Care Act, or Trumpcare, projecting that 14 million Americans would lose their health insurance under the bill in 2018 and a total of 24 million Americans would lose health insurance by the year 2026.

According to, approximately 750,000 Washingtonians have health insurance due to the Affordable Care Act and could lose coverage under Trumpcare.

Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski offered the following statement on the news:

“The Republican plan - aka Trumpcare - clearly takes health care away from millions of Americans, without increasing access to care and coverage for anyone. Middle class families, seniors and students have no affordable options under this plan - some have no options for care at all. Republicans need to recognize the needless pain and suffering this would cause for so many, and give up trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

"My ‘favorite’ part of GOP plan is the huge $400 million tax break for health insurance executives, coupled with the completely odd addition of a process so states can quickly de-enroll sudden lottery winners from health care. That’s six pages of the bill!  This is what the GOP is focusing on in healthcare reform?

“If Republicans really want to repeal health care coverage for millions so they can give big new tax breaks for insurance company executives, they’re in for a very big shock in the midterm elections. The American people will stand with Democrats to defend the good quality health care we deserve.”
