“100 percent pro-life” Tiffany Smiley is endorsed by leading anti-abortion Senators, has campaigned with fellow hardline anti-abortion candidates

“No matter what she says now, the facts are clear: Tiffany Smiley has spent this campaign proving to Washington voters she shouldn’t be trusted for a nanosecond with their reproductive rights”

(Seattle, WA) – Tiffany Smiley is trying to hide her extreme views on abortion from Washington voters, but she can’t hide from her own words: at the start of her campaign, MAGA Republican Tiffany Smiley endorsed the Texas abortion ban — one of the strictest in the nation, with no exceptions for rape or incest — even though she admitted “there’s a lot of parts of it that make it hard for me in Washington state.”

“Early on in her campaign, MAGA Republican Tiffany Smiley went out of her way to tell Washington voters she didn’t care what they thought about abortion by endorsing one of the most extreme abortion bans in the country, even admitting her own state didn’t agree,” said Washington State Democratic Party spokesperson Caitlin Harrington. “Since then, she’s assured her supporters she’s ‘100% pro-life’, praised the decision overturning Roe v. Wade, and been endorsed by leading anti-abortion politicians here in Washington and in the U.S. Senate.

“No matter what she says now, the facts are clear: Tiffany Smiley has spent this campaign proving to Washington voters she shouldn’t be trusted for a nanosecond with their reproductive rights.”

Some of Smiley’s first endorsements came from politicians leading radical anti-abortion efforts in the U.S. Senate — Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) is reportedly leading efforts to draft a national abortion ban, and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) who questioned the constitutionality of birth control. Smiley has also campaigned with U.S. House candidate Matt Larkin in WA-08, who said he would vote in favor of a nationwide abortion ban and has called for banning certain forms of birth control.

Since endorsing the Texas-style ban, Smiley has tried to hide her stance on abortion. She knows her extreme views are at odds with the overwhelming majority of Washington voters, who support abortion access. Despite claiming to be both “pro-woman” and “pro-life,” Smiley has refused to offer any policy specifics on how she would support mothers and children in difficult situations — further proof that she would be a rubber stamp for the extreme GOP agenda intent on criminalizing women and healthcare providers.

When it comes to upholding important rights like access to safe reproductive health care, Tiffany Smiley is wrong for Washington.
