ICYMI: Smiley’s lies exposed — Smiley supported a national abortion ban before running for Senate

Smiley lies to voters; says she opposed a federal abortion ban “long before” the Dobbs decision

THIS WEEK: Smiley campaigned with Mike Pence, previously expressed support for Pence statement that “leading voices in the Democratic Party advocate late-term abortion and defend infanticide”

(Seattle, WA) – Tiffany Smiley has told Washington voters time and again that while she is “100 percent pro-life,” she opposes a federal abortion ban. Smiley has even been telling the public that she “would vote to continue to fund Planned Parenthood and give women access to health care and contraception.”

But a review of Tiffany Smiley’s activity on Twitter before she was a candidate found undeniable proof of Smiley’s extreme anti-abortion views and her repeated support for a federal abortion ban and to defund Planned Parenthood.

Smiley liked a 2018 tweet in which Lindsey Graham discussed building support for his federal abortion ban legislation.

Smiley liked a tweet from Lindsey Graham that reads, “Vote just ended and I’m already meeting with leaders of the #ProLife movement. Tomorrow, we start building additional support for Pain Capable.  I have no doubt we will eventually be victorious!  #TheyFeelPain”

Smiley liked a 2017 tweet in which Cathy McMorris Rodgers says she is proud to see her federal abortion ban legislation come to the House floor for a vote.

Smiley liked a tweet from Cathy McMorris Rodgers that reads, “I am #prolife because every life has potential. Proud to see Micah’s Law come to the floor for a vote.”

Smiley liked a 2018 tweet from Debbie D’Souza calling explicitly to defund Planned Parenthood.

… and don’t forget that Smiley liked yet another tweet in 2017 expressing support for a national abortion ban.

“Tiffany Smiley has been lying to voters about her prior support for a national abortion ban — and her claim she ‘won’t vote for’ a federal abortion ban is a blatant general election pivot, meant to mislead Washington state voters before a critical election that could put Mitch McConnell in charge of the U.S. Senate,” said Washington State Democratic Party spokesperson Caitlin Harrington. “Tiffany Smiley is an anti-choice candidate with a long, documented anti-choice record who would rubber stamp the GOP agenda to ban abortion nationwide, including in Washington state — no matter how hard she tries to hide from her past and change the subject.”

TIFFANY SMILEY’S LONG, DOCUMENTED ANTI-ABORTION RECORD:

  • Smiley is, in her own words, “100 percent pro-life.”
  • At the start of her campaign, Tiffany Smiley endorsed the Texas abortion ban, one of the most extreme in the nation with no exceptions for rape or incest — even while admitting “there’s a lot of parts of it that make it hard for me in Washington state.
  • This September, her campaign reiterated  her “respect” for the extreme Texas law.
  • Smiley cheered the decision that overturned Roe and allowed states to ban abortion with no exceptions.
  • And Smiley refused to say – after being repeatedly asked – whether she supports abortion exceptions for rape and incest.
  • She is raising money from, campaigning with, and collecting endorsements from anti-abortion politicians who are committed to passing a national abortion ban, including those working to ban abortion in Washington state.
  • Her first vote would be to make Mitch McConnell Senate majority leader — and Republicans have already introduced and suggested they would bring to the floor legislation to ban abortion nationwide and impose criminal penalties of up to five years in prison on Americans.
