WA Dems Chair Podlodowski Congratulates New State Senator Yasmin Trudeau

Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski offered the following comment on news that the Pierce County Council appointed Yasmin Trudeau to the state Senate seat in the 27th Legislative District, filling the vacancy opened by the resignation of Sen. Jeannie Darneille:

“I am so excited to congratulate our new Senator Yasmin Trudeau on her appointment! I know she will do an amazing job serving the people of the 27th district. Her policy expertise, work accomplishments, and life experience as a mixed-race woman of color and first-generation immigrant all bring an important perspective to the Senate.

“All three finalists for the appointment would have made great senators, and Desiree Wilkins Finch and LaMont Green deserve thanks and praise as well. I appreciate the 27th Legislative District Democrats’ commitment to nominating three people of color for the position, and thank the Pierce County Council for moving quickly on this process. The people of Tacoma are lucky to have such great Democrats in their city, and will be well-served by their new Senator Trudeau.”
