TINA PODLODOWSKI SLAMS “PREPOSTEROUS” STUNT FROM WAGOP ATTEMPTING TO MINIMIZE THREATS OF VIOLENCE IN RIGHT-WING RHETORIC

After Washington State Republican Chair Caleb Heimlich wasted the time of Governor Inslee’s staff this morning with a cheap political stunt regarding the expense of protecting the Governor while traveling, Tina Podlodowski, Chair of the Washington State Democrats, issued this statement in response:
“Washington’s residents deserve a political discourse that actually brings competing ideas for how to improve their lives to the table, not cheap political stunts like this preposterous postering from Chair Heimlich this morning. The plain fact of the matter is that participating in politics in the political climate Republicans have enabled for years presents real and serious dangers to politicians’ personal safety. All of our public servants deserve protection, especially as Republicans are enabling, and sometimes encouraging, violent extremists.
As long as Washington Republican leaders like Chair Caleb Heimlich and Minority Leader JT Wilcox fail to condemn members of their own party — like Rep. Matt Shea — who participated in planning to surveil his political opponents and promoted a group that trains children for a “holy war,” they have no right to demand our Governor go without adequate protection.”
