Podlodowski Statement on WA-05 U.S. Congressional Debate at Fox Theater

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | October 17, 2018
SPOKANE, WA — Upon the conclusion of the debate between former WSU Chancellor Lisa Brown, and 14-year Republican incumbent Cathy McMorris Rodgers, held today at the historic Fox Theater Spokane, Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski released the following statement:

“Lisa Brown, the first-ever Democratic woman to become Senate Majority Leader in the Washington State Legislature, was on fire tonight. Over and over again, Lisa has succinctly made the case that she would put Eastern Washington first.

Tonight, McMorris Rodgers stood by her disastrous record in Congress: a tax scam which the Treasury Department reports has already increased the federal deficit by 17% and is being used by Republicans like Cathy to justify cuts to Medicare and Social Security; numerous votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a bill that would remove protections for people with pre-existing conditions and leave 42,000 people in her own district uninsured; and McMorris Rodgers’ inability to stop a trade war that is devastating the livelihoods of Eastern Washington farmers.

Washington Republicans have taken the 5th Congressional District for granted far too long. With nothing but 14 years of failed leadership to show for Cathy’s time in office, WA-05 voters are ready for Lisa Brown — a strong, independent voice who will fight for real change on behalf of Eastern Washington.”
