Where in the World is Jaime Herrera Beutler?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | October 23, 2018

SEATTLE, WA—The Washington State Democratic Party is sounding the alarm about infamously absent GOP Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, who, of all Washington State Republicans running in competitive Congressional Districts, will be the only 2018 candidate to avoid facing her opponent in a 1:1 public debate — unless she changes course.

Accelerating the Party’s efforts to help find the Republican incumbent, Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski is urging WA-03 voters to visit www.WhereIsJaime.com to learn why it is so important Jaime finally face her constituents and her opponent before Election Day.

Says Podlodowski: “Any GOP incumbent who claims to have voted more than 80 times to take away their constituents’ health care — without a backup plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions — and who repeatedly worked to make women’s reproductive health care more restrictive, absolutely should feel nervous facing voters. That’s the position Jaime is in. That’s why she’s hiding.

“But doing wrong by voters who pay your salary doesn’t make hiding from them right.

“By all accounts, Jaime Herrera Beutler is the most elusive Republican representative in Washington State, with a staggering 644 days since she last faced her constituents at an in-person town hall. Like the advanced motion-sensing technology required to capture Snow Leopards on film, or the PBS show it took to track down Carmen Sandiego, we knew getting the rarely-spotted Representative to show up in the same room as her constituents demanded bold action.

“With that same spirit-of-the-chase, we hope www.WhereIsJaime.com shines a spotlight on the growing search for Jaime, and we encourage all Washingtonians (including the Washington Debate Coalition) to join us.

“WA-03 voters deserve better than ‘phoning it in;’ they deserve a Representative who will show up in-person, publicly debate her opponents, and fight for them not against them in Congress.

“Jaime’s failure to meet these basic standards of responsibility rightly disqualifies her in the minds of many WA-03 voters, making Carolyn Long the clear, critical choice for the 3rd District.”

By November 6th, Democrat and former WSU-Vancouver Public Policy Professor, Carolyn Long, will have held 45 in-person town halls with WA-03 voters.
