RELEASE: WA Dems Win Legal Decision Against Conservative “Election Integrity” Conspiracy Theorists

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Michael Price today ruled in the case of Washington Election Integrity Coalition United et al vs Schumacher, Chandra et al, where conservative activists had sued county auditors seeking audits of the 2020 election results. In Price’s order, the court found that the plaintiff’s claims were “frivolous and advanced without reasonable cause,” and agreed to sanction the plaintiffs, awarding costs and fees to the defendants.

The Washington State Democratic Party filed motions to intervene in the lawsuit in October 2021, and fought in court to ensure that the unsupported and baseless allegations would be dismissed.

Today’s decision applied to the Washington Election Integrity Coalition United’s (WEiCU) lawsuit against the Lincoln County auditor. WEiCU’s lawsuits against the Pierce, Snohomish, Clark, King, Thurston, and Whatcom County auditors remain in federal court, and still await resolution.

“While conservative extremists and conspiracy theorists continue to hold their grip of power over the Republican Party, Washington State Democrats are committed to defending our democracy,” said Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski. “Time and again, conservative activists across our country and our state have tried to undermine the very bedrock of our democracy – our free and fair elections – with these baseless attacks on the 2020 election results. Democrats won’t stop fighting to uphold public faith in our democracy and to hold accountable the Republican Party leaders who intentionally foster these conspiracies for their own political gain. Today’s ruling was another win for democracy, and there’s more to come.”
